December 4 Michigan Club Meeting

Our second meeting of the season will be on Wednesday December 4 in the West Auditorium with a social hour at 5:00 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm and Entertainment at 7:00 pm

The dinner menu:  Pork Tenderloin,  Sweet Potato, Baked Apple, Green Salad, Carrot Cake

We will be entertained by the Saguaro Sunset Trio.  The group formed in 2014, plays a wonderful blend of easy listening bluegrass, country and folk.  Original pieces, along with traditional favorites and a few lesser known tunes, make this trio a delight to listen to and even better to see live.  JoAnn Shifflet provides wonderful lead vocals and harmonizes beautifully with the band.  Not only is JoAnn a wonderful singer but she is also a great musician.  Arlene Tomlinson gives the trio a steady bass beat coupled with a fantastic smile!  Jim Sanchez rounds out the trio on rhythm guitar and adds his strong lead vocals and compliments the harmonies.  The trio is sure to entertain and be a musical delight in the desert.

Our Wednesday November 6th GVR Michigan Club Dinner Program will be Country and Swing music by Patric Knot and Michael Mack, two members of the musical group Crossfire.  Their music promises to be great for listening and dancing.

Dinner Menu:  Turkey Remoulade with pecan-cranberry dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli, rolls and Pumpkin Cheese Cake

The location is the usual West Center auditorium

5-6 pm   Social Hour

6-7 pm  Dinner

7 pm Entertainment

April 3rd Michigan Club Meeting

Our April GVR MI Club Dinner Program will be by Sara Busch, DVM, a naturalist and birder, who will present an illustrated talk about the Orangutans of Borneo, the birds and creatures of the Galapagos Islands, their vulnerabilities, and some discussions on how to protect them.

Dr. Busch is the daughter of our fellow member, John Rockershausen

Dinner Menu:  Open-faced Beef BBQ on French Bread, Au Gratin Potatoes, 3 Bean Salad, Chocolate Chip Pie.

5-6 pm   Social Hour

6-7 pm  Dinner

7 pm Concert

MARCH 6 DINNER AND ENTERTAINMENT BY HARDSCRABBLE ROAD

Enjoy a St. Patricks Day dinner with Hardscrabble Road, March 6, 2019 at the West Center auditorium.   Social Hour at 5:00 p.m , Dinner at 6:00, and at 7:00 Hardscrabble Road band will entertain us.

THE SOCIAL HOUR WILL INCLUDE OUR ANNUAL SILENT AUCTION!

Set ups and nibbles provided but BYOB.

The dinner menu: Corned Beef and Cabbage, Potatoes and Carrots, Salad, Soda Bread.   Cheese Cake for Desert.

Our next Michigan Club dinner meeting is Wednesday, February 6  at the West Social Center.

December Meeting

Our second meeting of the season will be on Wednesday December 5 in the West Auditorium with a social hour at 5:00 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm and Entertainment at 7:00 pm

Dinner will be Pork Tenderloin, vegetable, salad, and Apple pie and cheddar cheese for desert.

We will be entertained by the Greg Morton Trio.  The trio is Greg Morton,  guitar, Lex Browning, Fiddle, and Guitar, and Jim Stanley, Upright Bass.  All three perform vocals during their show.   They play acoustic Bluegrass, Country, Instrumentals and Original Music.
Greg Morton has played with such artist as Bill Monroe, Chet Atkins, 3 years on the Don Ho Show in Honolulu, Hawaii and has won Tennessee, Lousiana, Alabama, Arizona Mid South Championships on the Guitar.
Lex Browning currently tours with the Popular Band, Poco along with Rusty Young. Lex has played with Trace Atkins, Kenny Rogers, Tanya Tucker and Pam Tills.

Our November 2018 Meeting

Our first meeting is on Wednesday November 7  in the West Auditorium with a social hour at 5:00 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm and Entertainment at 7:00 pm

Dinner will be Chicken Jardinière with garden vegetables and rice pilaf. Tossed salad, Rolls & butter. Lemon Pound Cake with whipped Cream.

A new group called “All Jazzed Up” will entertain us.  The singer, Jo Ann Shifflet , sang for us last December as part of the group “Saguaro Sunset Trio”.Her new group offers Torch Songs also known as Jazz and Swing Ballads from Tin Pan Alley.  Jo Ann is familiar with many styles of music and plays many instruments.  She is drawn to folk, bluegrass and country music of the easy listening variety and also to “Torch Jazz” because of the emotion and exact precise phrasing of this style including jazz standards.
Steve Smith is an accomplished musician whose guitar prowess is second to none.  Steve studied music at the University of Arizona.  And can be heard in many musical productions around the Tucson area.  He can be heard weekly in a country band called “Flipside” at the famous Tucson Maverick.

Dinner with Amber Norgaard and Friends

Amber Norgaard, Sabra Faulk and Danny Krieger team up to deliver a fun evening of music blending blues, country and rock ‘n roll into a style of their own. Their harmonies, humor and fabulous musicianship will uplift your evening.

Amber Norgaard, a nurse-turned-musician, is described as “Tucson’s folk-rock goddess” (Natural Awakenings Magazine) and “poet, peace warrior, healer” (Tucson Lifestyle Magazine). She delivers a passionate vocal/piano/guitar performance. Her eloquent lyrics inspire a sense of hope. She tours nationally, has opened for Judy Collins, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, received accolades for her songwriting, and written songs for multiple non-profit organizations and film projects.  Here is an example of Amber’s work   Raise Me Up  Music Video

Sabra Faulk is an award-winning bassist, vocalist and acoustic guitarist. She has been staple in the southern Arizona music scene for over 20 years and is best known for her funk/rock/blues bass playing, and more recently for her songwriting. She has won multiple Tucson Area Music Awards (TAMMIES) and was the headliner for the 2012 Tucson Folk Festival.

Danny Krieger is one of the Southwest’s most respected guitarists/slide guitarists. His musical resume includes world-wide tours with British pop band ‘Christy’ in the early ’70s and numerous recording sessions with a variety of artists ranging from Exene Cervenka to the late Andy Gibb. He’s worked with Big Joe Turner, Coco Montoya, Johnny Rivers, and Smokey Wilson & Eric Burdon. Originally from LA, Danny has toured with Debbie Davies, Sam Taylor, ‘The Mollys’, Holland’s Mr. Boogie Woogie, and John “Juke” Logan. Danny also won a Tucson Area Music Award (TAMMY) for guitar in 2000 and was inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame in 1999. Lest we forget, Danny was the child singer in the “Oh, I wish I was an Oscar Meyer weiner…..” commercial! Don’t believe it? Go to www.youtube.com and check it out!
